The Color of Money

The last two electronics giants to fail are CompUSA and Circuit City. These companies have little in common except for the products they sell. Meanwhile a similar retail outlet called BEST BUY is pulling in a income of 1.4 trillion annually. The difference between them? The color of their logos. Circuit City and CompUSA had red logos, while Best Buy has a blue one.

Look at other industries, similar trends are popping up. Wachovia, Washington Mutual, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Chase – all victims to the economic crunch. while companies such as CitiBank. Wells Fargo, and Bank of America have been able to pull out harmed, but still alive. All the forementioned companies have blue in their corporate identity, but CitiBank and B of A both have red accents to them, while Wells Fargo’s logo is nearly all red.

Coincidence? Perhaps. But we all know certain colors mean certain things to people. So just maybe, being in a highly public position like these companies were in, that little streak of red made all the difference in the world. Just maybe.

Photoshop CS3 has hit public beta. The biggest addition is that it is a Universal Binary, so all you Intel Mac (or Hackintosh) folks can go ahead and start using it natively without the headache of Rosetta.
